New School Nick was looking to build something more traditional looking for his touring motorcycle,
so he went with the Harley-Davidson FLSTSC (Softail Springer Classic in real English)

  • If the Springer fork on this motorcycle seems unfamiliar, that’s understandable. Most American
  • Baggers are equipped with “modern” hydraulic front suspension. In the beginning, a Bagger was
  • simply a two-wheeler with bags thrown over the fender. It’s easy to imagine an early Harley-
  • Davidson® or Indian motorcycle owner wanting to carry some cargo while keeping his or her
  • hands free for the handlebars. After all, horseback riders have been using “saddlebags” forever.
  • Why not saddlebags for the modern self propelled two-wheeled contraption that is the forerunner
  • of today’s American Bagger? Those early motorcycles, Harley-Davidson as well as Indian, were
  • equipped with an early design Springer type fork, very similar to the fork seen on this bike from
  • Milwaukee Bagger. So you see, Springer fork equipped Baggers were around long before the
  • hydraulic fork was introduced.
